Nik Patel is a Consultant Neural & Spinal surgeon primarily working in the Department of Neurosurgery at Southmead hospital, Bristol. He specialises in the surgical treatments of pain, spinal disorders, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and depression, and plays an active role as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Bristol.
As part of the Bristol Functional Neurosurgery Team, Nik has been involved in developing advanced methods of implanting deep brain stimulating electrodes. He’s using these techniques in pioneering advancements in deep brain stimulation therapy for chronic pain, epilepsy, hypertension and treatment-resistant psychiatric disease.
Treatments
Nik offers surgical treatment for intractable chronic pain (phantom limb pain, brachial and lumbar plexus avulsion syndromes, anaesthesia dolorosa, cluster headache and central post-stroke pain syndromes), as well as treatment-resistant depression and other psychiatric disease.
